About Us
1101 is a nonprofit community dance program that is located in Temple Hills, Maryland, serving youth, ages 8 to 18. Offering one of the most affordable dance programs in the area with supplements such as mentorship programming and selfless charitable efforts in the community. Beginning in November 1, 2010, when passionate dancer of humble beginnings, Xaviour James Smith decided to break the mold after meeting gender biases blocked him from joining his high school dance teams and unable to join all-star because of the pressure it would cause on his then household budget, he set out to make a difference for community youth and their households similar to himself by starting 1101.
Since November 1, 2010, 1101 has repeatedly educated successful teams to perform regionally, a series that continues today. As membership expanded, 1101 has found it important to utilize some of the most state-of-the-art local educational facilities in some of the top local schools for class and event spaces to properly accommodate all students and an individual nature within a team setting.
1101 continues to be impactful in not only the dance world, but to surrounding communities through their presence in donating their time and efforts in being dedicated to providing a fun and safe environment to grow and learn as students, athletes, and individuals to be a civic leader. Offering youth, the opportunity to build the confidence and physical strength through dance and the vigorous blend of academics, athleticism, and artistry that will last them long after they graduate the program and will promote them in life, wherever they may go. 1101 staff encourages students to be both scholarly competitors and encouraging team players, creating lifetime friendships each time they step out and practice and perform. 1101 offers both showcase and competitive teams that participate in both local and regional events.
